It is a cool idea, but it makes you wonder why there is different a sequel when change and the corporation could continue to update the game. The whole thing starts to make sense if you factor in Activision's desire.

Compared to expand to new platforms, and what better way to market more games? Blizzard started as a PC-focused programmer, and it left a push to the world of consoles over the past couple of years, but one place where the storied studio has barely scratched the surface is mobile. Soon, that could alter -- and Diablo: Immortal, which was announced in 2018, could just be the tip of this iceberg.

"In relation to Blizzard's strategy to mobile gambling, a lot people within the past couple of years have shifted from playing primarily desktop to playing many hours on cellular, and we have a lot of our best developers currently working on brand new cellular titles across all our IPs," said studio co-founder Allen Adham during a BlizzCon 2018 media conference. "A few of them are with outside partners, such as Diablo: Immortal. A number of them are being developed only, and we are going to get information to share on those in the future."

The launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged, that aimed to modernize the RTS classic, does not inspire optimism. The remake surfaced using several connectivity and performance issues, and it changed how the initial game works. The situation got bad enough that Blizzard started offering fans refunds regardless of playtime.

Granted, Blizzard did not have fixer Rod Fergusson in its positions for Reforged. And based on what we understand of Diablo 4, it's appearing to be the kind of grim, badass action game that lovers are awaiting. The next game in the demon-slaying franchise appears to be shaping up during a period of cultural change that is sweeping at the evolution studio, and that's bound to affect the match.
