It's a sad, lonely existence just made slightly bearable by Blizzard's terrific zones and music. But finally, it is a sport designed to soak up as many hours as possible to keep your subscription in the books. It's not too bad once you've got a full camp of critters to farm, but if people are yelling in place chat about not needing a single pursuit item drop in 45 minutes, it turns into a chore as paid-for entertainment.

You can probably tell by now I have a love-hate relationship with World of Warcraft no matter which variant it is. But that brief effort at leveling with family and friends served to remind me World of Warcraft Classic isn't all that good without great company. Its convoluted mechanics often work against the gamers paying to keep it alive, and the burden of this grind is simply made a lot more tolerable once you have a friend to take along for the ride.

Are you supposed to review something like World of Warcraft Classic? We already played this game 15 years ago -- or, more specifically, 13 years ago as WoW Classic relies on patch 1.2 for vanilla WoW, that did not ship until 2006. Regardless of the particular moment in time WoW Classic catches, a lot of us have played before, and we likely have an opinion on how good this game is.

For a number of us -- although certainly not all of us WoW Classic is near peak World of Warcraft. There will always be lovers of each iteration of World of Warcraft, but it certainly seems like a high amount of people say that WoW was at its best either through vanilla or The Burning Crusade, World of Warcraft's earliest expansion.I'm one of these people, but I have to acknowledge that outside of nostalgia, I do not have lots of strong views on World of Warcraft. I played my fair share of the game and I have returned at different points during the years to check out the state of the game. The bulk of my playtime, however, remains with vanilla WoW, so World of Warcraft Classic is a game that's aimed at me and the people of similar backgrounds.
