Buying an SSD shouldn't be a huge problem for most users

Ray Traced Shadows in World of Warcraft Shadowlands have been enabled on the match's Beta/PTR, and also the first comparison shots have surfaced online.

Back in April of this year, Blizzard additional Ray Traced Shadow alternatives to the game's Alpha. Unfortunately, real Ray Traced Shadows were not enabled just yet and people in the Alpha were only able to observe the new options. According to the alternative's description, it"improves shadow quality with beam design, which generates shadows with much more natural softness, substantially increased precision, and out of other light sources"

Players from the alpha Could select among the next Ray Traced Shadows choices:

Fast forward four months and we could now finally see the way the new shadows seem in the upcoming Shadowlands expansion. Earlier this week we reported that the new NVIDIA Game Ready Driver additional support for the looming new feature in Shadowlands, and several Beta/PTR players have now shared some screenshots comparing Shadowlands with without the Ray Traced Shadows enabled.

As shared by Blizzard, the new option within Shadowlands uses DirectX Ray Tracing 1.1 (DXR 1.1) and also a DXR 1.1-capable driver is required to utilize Ray Traced Shadows. We've included the shared contrast screenshots down under. As may be seen in those shots, and as may have been anticipated, the ramifications of Ray Traced Shadows are not that obvious but do appear to be more powerful in darker regions with low lighting.

Blizzard has updated their minimal required spec to include 100GB storage area for the two SSDs and hard drives. However, they warn players who functionality of your hard disk might influence Shadowland's gaming experience.

A few Shadowlands beta testers have reported that running the game in an HDD has not affected their performance or gameplay in any substantial way.

However, it's most likely a great idea to run this game on an SSD anyhow (here's our list of Greatest SSDs). When you look at games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare that don't need an SSD but have very large storage requirements, the game is playable but you'll encounter painfully long loading times. You can also possibly experience"hitching" where the HDD isn't fast enough to flow assets in real time.

Buying an SSD shouldn't be a huge problem for most users -- nearly all new PCs and notebooks include solid state storage. Plus, with the price of SSDs dropping exponentially over the past few years, grabbing a glistening new SSD just for Shadowlands will not break the bank for most budget gamers.

Unlike the modern sport, there is not any official'looking for group' system that finds people to play you and teleports all of you to the dungeon. Instead, you're search for party members in chat channels in major towns or in your guild, and you may all fly or run together to the dungeon you wish to do. And you'll have to go there -- in the early days of Classic, there'll be no summoning stones in the instances themselves.
