Log in to your first time, and you will be presented with lore constructed on the core desktop EVE experience. EVE Echoes is set in its own distinct EVE universe, for clear technical and narrative motives, but anyone familiar with the franchise will immediately feel at home because you begin by trying to save an SOE ship from the get-go. Unfortunately, this action-packed opening at the depths of space doesn't go well for players, but thankfully you have obtained a clone. A fundamental tenet of the EVE universe, cones may be a replacement for magic respawns but do not expect too much diversity when you develop your own.
Like many mobile games, EVE Echoes supplies some options for character development but they're relatively restricted. Initially allowing players to pick from one of four factions, EVE Echoes thankfully slots players to the Amarr, Gallente, Caldari, or Minmatar races with this opening gambit. While each of the four races available their very own flavor or citizens to select from during character creation, the impact of those early selections is somewhat restricted for new players. Each of the four races come with their very own history, detailed in a part of the story blurb, and have slightly different technological capabilities. Beyond this, and most of all each race also offers a different aesthetic and set of bloodlines for your very first EVE Echoes clone.
Assuming you are able to pick from the introduction four factions, then personality creation provides somewhat bit more diversity with a selection of bloodlines for every player to select from. Every faction comes with three default bloodlines, the result of every culture's history, and players can pick from a mixture of predetermined looks in each. This includes a total of 4 races, 3 bloodlines per race, and 8 prefab appears per bloodline. While this sounds like a big enough gene pool, I can not help but feel somewhat underwhelmed by the absence of personal attachment this brings to the opening moments of EVE Echoes. Possible capsuleers might be looking for something a little more interesting than the usual 2D avatar however EVE was never on the colour of a pilot's hair and when I can seem like an extra on Cyberpunk 2077 then will have to do while I save up for an epic looking new ship in this new universe.
