I have been trying to find each of the pso games out and the way they fit in with one another? There's actually a throughline! Sort of. The PS Classic matches are not really connected to PSO's storyline I can tell, besides some naming conventions.
In Phantasy Star Universe, you find relic sites all across the system that relate to ancient civilizations and the way things went down; they're hyper-advanced and actually end up being dangerous for their space-time rips and tears within'em. They are mostly a setpiece/backdrop for balls of Phantasy Star Online 2 and also provide an excuse to port a few of the iconic gear from Classic and PSO in a diagetic way. Since PSU advances, we struck Phantasy Star Portable two, where you learn the ancient civilization desired to become truly immortal, so that they seal their spirits in an alternate dimension. At a"specific time" the souls would re-emerge and hijack the entire bodies of the contemporary Gurhal System (where Phantasy Star Online 2s take place) and dwell again.
Heathcliff Flowen and red Ring Rico are hanging around, living also and free of Falz -- again, I'm not sure on the story elements. The end to Infinity was essentially a"we will see you at the stars" type of thing, and in just a year or so (again, I think?) PSO2 came out. I don't know whether the purpose was to have PSU/I dovetail into PSO2, however there's definitely threads and hints which the online games are attached, even though by a very thin wire.
PSO is tied to PSU; culture advanced super much and dropped because of Dark Falz, they became large a-holes and commissioned a strategy to resurrect themselves in a later date, Pioneer 2 was murdered on Parum. There's a throughline, but it is thin and it's not clear if PSU is connected to PSO2.Given which SEGA, following 8 decades, abruptly decided to launch PSO2 in western territories their is a good possibility that it is since a new Phantasy Star game is under development at SEGA studios and will be announced in the next few years. So releasing PSO2 in a land that has understanding of the franchise is a wise way.
